Before you go

  • Follow signs for a Marunouchi exit, not Yaesu.
  • Make the exterior square the focus of this stop.
  • Check venue hours separately if adding KITTE or another building.
Choose the west side

Tokyo Station has distinct sides. Marunouchi faces west toward the Imperial Palace; Yaesu leads toward Ginza and Nihonbashi. Save the exit name rather than relying on the station name alone. This is an exterior architecture stop, not a guide to paid platforms or a particular rail service.

Look at old and new together

The station’s original design dates to 1914, with restoration completed in 2012. From the Marunouchi square, look for the brick-and-stone facade and copper-trimmed domes, then the modern buildings behind them. The photograph makes the historic station facade the focus, with the modern skyline behind it.

Add one nearby building

KITTE occupies the former Tokyo Central Post Office and retains elements of its 1931 building. It is an optional continuation, along with the nearby Marunouchi and Shin-Marunouchi buildings. Check current opening and access information before going inside; this guide does not promise rooftop access or evening illumination.
