Before you go

  • JR Nara and Kintetsu-Nara are separate stations.
  • Give wild deer space and supervise children closely.
  • Do not give deer food other than designated deer crackers; take litter home.
Plan the arrival and return

JR Nara and Kintetsu-Nara are different stations. Nara’s official visitor guide places the park east of Kintetsu-Nara and describes access from JR Nara along Sanjo-dori. Save the station that your own route uses; there is no single walking time that describes every destination in the park.

Watch without crowding

Nara’s deer are wild animals. Official guidance warns that they can bite, kick or charge, and calls for particular care around males during the autumn rut. This is general seasonal guidance, not a report about an individual animal today.

Keep children closely supervised and do not let them approach deer alone. Do not tease deer or offer food other than the designated deer crackers. Feeding is optional, not a required part of a visit. Keep litter and belongings secure.

Leave room for the park

Allow time for the park landscape and the places you choose to visit. Check each attraction’s own access and admission information; the park setting does not mean every facility within it has identical conditions.
