Arashiyama beyond one photo

Bamboo and Togetsu-kyo Bridge are different parts of the area. Start by choosing the railway station that fits your visit.

Before you go

  • Distinguish JR Saga-Arashiyama, Hankyu Arashiyama and Randen Arashiyama.
  • Treat the bamboo paths and Togetsu-kyo Bridge as separate places to explore.
  • Keep paths clear and never carve or damage bamboo.
Choose a station deliberately

Arashiyama is an area in northwestern Kyoto, not one photo stop. JR Saga-Arashiyama, Hankyu Arashiyama and Randen Arashiyama belong to different railways. Check the full station name when planning your arrival and return, especially if you are comparing route results.

Give the area some room

Kyoto City’s tourism guide introduces both the bamboo scenery and Togetsu-kyo Bridge. Choose which places matter to you and plan the connections rather than treating them as a single viewpoint. JR Saga-Arashiyama is an access point for the bamboo area, but the right arrival station depends on your wider route.

A photograph does not promise empty paths, current foliage or access conditions. Check official information and local signs for the conditions on your visiting day.

Leave the bamboo as you found it

Keep the route open for other people and follow local signs. Never carve, scratch or otherwise damage the bamboo. Check the official area guide for current information rather than relying on a photograph to choose a quiet visiting time.
