Tama-no-Yu, Dogo Onsen Honkan
A stone bath filled with hot-spring water inside historic Dogo Onsen Honkan. The photograph records the men’s Tama-no-Yu bath in July 2024.
Current visiting conditions
The lead photo shows the men’s Tama-no-Yu bath only, not the women’s bath or Kami-no-Yu. A basic Kami-no-Yu bathing ticket does not include Tama-no-Yu; choose an eligible bath-and-rest course.
Reuse of the official supplied photograph is not permission to take photographs inside the baths. These July 2024 records predate the full restoration completion on 20 December 2024.

Check before setting off
Honkan is scheduled to close all day on 1 December 2026 for cleaning. Asuka-no-Yu and Tsubaki-no-Yu have a separate cleaning day on 2 December.
This dated plan now needs checking again. Actual implementation or opening has not been confirmed; use the latest official notice.
This is a working public bathhouse, not just a building to admire. The Tama-no-Yu second-floor course continues after bathing with tea and a small sweet.
OR05 shows the men’s Tama-no-Yu bath on 2 July 2024, not the women’s bath or Kami-no-Yu. OR06 is the exterior on 3 July. Both predate completion of the restoration on 20 December 2024.
Three things to look for
1 | Experience the stone-lined bath
Notice the basin and washing stations in the photograph. These are shared, sex-separated baths, not a private bathing suite.
2 | Stay for the after-bath ritual
The Tama-no-Yu second-floor course includes loan yukata and towels. Return to your seat for tea and a sweet after bathing.
3 | A bath to use, another to view
Yūshinden was built for imperial use in 1899. View its wooden bath chamber and gold- and silver-leaf decoration; this is not a bath visitors can use.
From a major station
JR Matsuyama / Iyotetsu Matsuyama-shi
From JR Matsuyama’s tram stop, take a Dōgo Onsen-bound tram, approximately 25 minutes. Matsuyama-shi is a different station; its tram trip is approximately 20 minutes.
Walk about three minutes from Dōgo Onsen Station to Honkan, 5-6 Dōgoyunomachi. Use the ticket counter at the west entrance.
Allow separately for tram and admission queues. Check current tram service and the official course-specific waiting times.
These are route segments, not a guaranteed total journey time. Travel-date departures, fares and admission prices still need checking, even where dated prices are listed below.
Nearby culture, food & rest stops
Optional stops, not guaranteed openings or a combined ticket.
Ichiroku Honpo — Dōgo Honkan-mae
A souvenir-sweets shop at 20-17 Yunomachi, an optional stop after bathing. The shop lists 09:00–19:00 Sunday–Thursday and 09:00–20:00 Friday–Saturday.
Temporary closures and same-day stock are unverified. These are shop hours, not hours for an upstairs café.
Before you go / what remains uncertain
Tickets | tax-inclusive prices for ages 12+
Kami-no-Yu bath-only: ¥700, 60 min, 06:00–23:00 (last ticket 22:30). Kami second-floor rest: ¥1,300, 60 min. Tama second-floor rest: ¥2,000, both baths plus Yūshinden self-guided viewing, 60 min. Both second-floor courses run 06:00–22:00 (last ticket 21:00). Tama third-floor private resting room: ¥2,500, both baths and Yūshinden viewing, 90 min, last ticket 20:30. These four courses cannot be reserved.
Reserved rooms and admission queues
Shirasagi and Hishō are reservable resting rooms, not private baths. The guided Yūshinden visit also requires reservation and includes no bathing. Online bookings open 90 days ahead and close at 22:00 the previous day. For ordinary courses, follow the on-site queue system; return within 15 minutes of being called.
Bathing etiquette | put cameras away
Wash before soaking; tie up long hair and keep towels out of the water. Do not bathe in swimwear or wrapped in a towel; purpose-made garments covering surgical scars are permitted. Photography and phone use are prohibited in changing and bathing rooms. The city-supplied photograph does not imply visitor photography permission.
What to bring and allow time for
Bring or rent towels for either Kami-no-Yu course; Tama courses include loan hand and bath towels. The course time is an overall visit limit, not a recommendation for time spent soaking.
A possible order — editorial suggestion
Choose a course, bathe, use its resting space, then view Yūshinden if included. Admire the exterior and consider a sweets stop afterwards. Keep the plan within your course time.
Still to verify for your date
- Same-day availability, services and temporary changes remain unverified. Current tattoo conditions were not established from the official pages reviewed; no permission or prohibition is asserted.

What to look for
A stone bath, with time to rest
The Tama-no-Yu second-floor course includes bathing in Kami-no-Yu and Tama-no-Yu, followed by rest upstairs. The empty bath in the photograph is not a promise of privacy during your visit.
Good to know
Current official table: Tama-no-Yu second-floor course, adults aged 12+ ¥2,000; children aged 2–11 ¥1,000; 60 minutes. Hours 06:00–22:00, last admission 21:00. Recheck prices and admission before arrival. Private rest rooms do not contain their own baths.
The building, from outside
The southwest exterior of the same Honkan, recorded on 3 July 2024. This supports orientation, not a second experience. It predates the restoration’s full completion and does not guarantee present details.
