Hanazawa no Sato
Wooden buildings and stone walls follow a rising riverside lane in Hanazawa. Read the village’s tea- and citrus-growing past in its living architecture.
Planning checked: 2026-10-31
Before you set off
Do not enter homes or fields without permission. Keep quiet and give residents and vehicles room on the narrow road.
The tourism association still lists a landslide closure on nearby Mt Hanazawa Route 3-1. This is not a notice closing the whole village; check separately before hiking.
Photographed in 2024. Official 2026 material confirms the district and walking course remain listed, not the visit-day condition of every building or road surface.
Presented as a residential streetscape walk. Check individual businesses and the visitor centre separately for visit-day opening.
The trail notice is dated 3 July 2024 and was reread on 2 November 2026. This is not a check of access on the day of your visit. Its scope is trail 3-1, not a guarantee that the entire village is currently accessible.
What to see | Buildings rising directly above stone walls
Outbuildings standing above roadside stone walls were used for farm work and citrus storage. The buildings evolved with tea, citrus and silk production. Look at them together with the stream, sloping fields and woodland to understand the village’s form.
Getting there | Bus and uphill walk from Yaizu Station
The city lists the Yurikamome loop from JR Yaizu Station’s south-exit stand 1 to Takakusayama Ishiwaki Iriguchi, about 12 minutes, then an uphill walk of about 30 minutes to the village entrance. Hokkeji is about seven minutes farther. Satsuki runs in the opposite direction: check the service and return trip.
Before visiting | A living village is not an open-air museum
People still live here, and the city asks visitors not to enter property without permission. The photograph dates to 9 March 2024. The tourism association still displays a landslide closure notice for Hanazawayama trail 3-1; the notice concerns that trail, not the village as a whole. Recheck trail conditions before adding a hike, and individual opening arrangements before visiting a shop.
Draft review: 2026-11-02. Not a live opening, service or seasonal-condition guarantee.
Original photograph & route notes
JR Yaizu Station → your visit
- From south-exit bus stand 1, take the Yurikamome loop to Takakusayama Ishiwaki Iriguchi (about 12 minutes in the city guide).
- Walk uphill for about 30 minutes to the village entrance; Hokkeji Temple is roughly 7 minutes farther.
Services are limited, and the Satsuki loop runs the opposite way. Recheck your route, timetable and return service. The approach includes an uphill walk, not a door-to-door bus.
