Umekita Park at Grand Green Osaka
The broad roof of ROHTO Heart Square and the lawn give the new Osaka Station district a recognizable focal point.

Check before setting off
The 27 October 2026 announcement schedules about 8,400 m² of Umekita Forest to open at noon on 20 November, with the full Hirameki-no-Michi connection opening progressively afterward that day. As of 31 October, these are not presented as already accessible. Full park opening is planned around spring 2027.
This dated plan now needs checking again. Actual implementation or opening has not been confirmed; use the latest official notice.
The official 14 September notice suspends fountain operation until further announcement for maintenance. Do not plan around a running fountain or water play. This is not a closure of the entire park.
Photographed on 5 March 2026 around Rohto Heart Square Umekita, the image includes a cordoned-off lawn in the foreground. It shows the shape of the roof and open space, not today’s access boundaries or completion of the whole park.
Three things to look for
1 | Follow the low roof from end to end
SANAA designed the large roof. Compare its soft horizontal line with the vertical towers behind. Keeping the lawn in the frame makes the roof’s low profile more apparent.
2 | Notice the open space between city and sky
South Park’s lawn creates an open, gently sloping space. Enjoy the lawn and sky from an accessible path, entering the grass only where current care or event signs permit.
3 | Compare the space under the roof and outside
The covered Rohto Heart Square Umekita also hosts events. Think of it as an urban park whose atmosphere changes with activities and people, rather than a guaranteed quiet plaza.
Read the photograph & local culture
Compare three layers: the pale curved roof, lawn and towers beyond. The ropes belong to the capture date. This single image cannot establish either that those areas remain closed or that all areas are now accessible.
The former Umeda freight-station area is being reshaped around greenery and mixed-use facilities. Read the park as a contemporary urban space still changing in its open areas and everyday use, rather than as a finished, unchanging landmark.
From a major station
JR Osaka Station, Umekita Underground Gate
Daytime route while South Wing ground-floor entrances are available
Head to JR Osaka Station’s Umekita Underground Gate and use the connection to Grand Green Osaka South Wing’s basement level. Allow additional time if arriving at another station gate.
Follow South Wing signs to the ground-floor exit toward Umekita Park. The building’s directory identifies the park connection at ground level and the JR Umekita connection at basement level.
Use open park paths toward South Park’s large roof and Rohto Heart Square Umekita. Do not shortcut through construction or event barriers.
A South Wing tenant’s official access guide lists all building entrances as available from 11:00 to 21:00; access differs early and late. Park, shopping facilities and underground passages do not share one opening schedule. Recheck current signs.
These are route segments, not a guaranteed total journey time. Travel-date departures, fares and current admission prices are not verified.
Nearby culture, food & rest stops
Optional stops, not guaranteed openings or a combined ticket.
PLAT UMEKITA
A South Park information and exhibition space: useful for learning about the park and checking current programs. Exhibition content and event participation conditions need separate confirmation.
Normally 10:00–20:00, with emergency or maintenance closures possible. These are facility hours, not park-wide hours.
MIDORI LOUNGE
The official park map identifies a free-use lounge with an attached café. Consider it if your walk also takes you to the northern area.
Current individual opening hours were not established here. Check events and café operation in the official shop information or on site.
Before you go / what remains uncertain
Lawn access changes for care and events. Water basins are not swimming pools. Walk bicycles and take litter home. The 20 November opening events also plan some temporary access restrictions, so check the latest notice for event dates.
Photographer permissions, exact viewpoints, current weather, temporary access and same-day availability are not independently established by these photographs.
