Lake Tsuburo
Wooded slopes enclose this reservoir in Yoshino, with changing light reflected across its inlets. Enjoy the lake from authorized shore areas. The picture shows scenery rather than an operating canoe tour.
Current visiting conditions
The photograph records 26 May 2024. On 16 July 2026, the town announced the canoe facility would reopen on 18 July after water levels recovered. This does not guarantee today’s water level, every shore path or same-day activities. Do not enter floating structures or working equipment.

Woodland surrounds this reservoir. See it not only as scenery, but as water supporting farming and daily life—a different way to read Nara’s landscape.
NA01 was taken on 26 May 2024. It shows light through clouds, rippled water, a distant red bridge and a foreground floating structure—not guaranteed sunset, water levels or permission to enter that structure or camera position.
Three things to look for
1 | Read the light on the water
The dark woodland edge, bright sky and water form visual layers. Before searching for the bridge, notice the small reflections and the curves of the banks.
2 | The working purpose behind the scenery
Nara Prefecture describes the dam as supplying agricultural water to the Yamato and Kii plains and domestic water in Nara. The attractive lake surface is also part of an everyday water-supply system.
3 | Separate lake viewing from water activities
Tourism guidance mentions boating and fishing, but a scenic photograph is not a bookable activity. Current rental operation and charges were not verified, so this guide does not present a confirmed boating plan.
From a major station
From Osaka, start at Kintetsu Osaka-Abenobashi. Yamato-Kamiichi is the rail gateway for the lake.
Check a Yoshino-bound itinerary to Yamato-Kamiichi. The town’s Kyoto route uses a change at Kashiharajingu-mae. Confirm train type, any limited-express supplement and travel-date connections separately.
The reservation-based Smile Bus is an option toward the lake. Non-residents book by phone only, weekdays 08:30–17:00, from three business days before travel. Arrange both directions and confirm the designated stop for your intended lake facility before arriving.
From your booked stop, use paths open locally. The demand bus is a shared stop-to-stop service, not a taxi to the photographer’s location.
Taxi availability/fares if booking fails, and travel-date conventional bus schedules, remain unverified.
Your preferred bus time is not guaranteed. Secure the return before waiting for evening light. The prefectural tourism guide’s forty-minute walk from Tsuburokoguchi describes a different stop; do not confuse it with a designated lakeside pickup.
These are route segments, not a guaranteed total journey time. Travel-date departures, fares and current admission prices are not verified.
Nearby culture, food & rest stops
Optional stops, not guaranteed openings or a combined ticket.
Tsuburo Dam: understand the reservoir
The reservoir’s gravity-concrete dam is managed by the Kinki Regional Agricultural Administration Office. It is introduced as background to the lake, not a confirmed interior tour, dam-card pickup or walking route from the photograph.
Before you go / what remains uncertain
Do not infer access from the photograph
Floating structures and piers in a photograph are not automatically open to visitors. Follow restrictions, avoid descending to the waterline and identify the return route in daylight.
Season and the return journey
May’s light and greenery will not recur at the same winter clock time. The demand bus’s regular guidance excludes 31 December–3 January. Recheck transport and facilities for New Year travel.
A possible order — editorial suggestion
Editorial suggestion: choose the lake destination → arrange transport and stops in both directions → arrive in daylight → enjoy the lake from open paths → return for the booked ride. Do not lose the return journey chasing the photographed sky.
Still to verify for your date
- Current shoreline access, exact camera position, toilets, boating/canoeing/fishing operation, fees, language and age rules, and consistent restaurant opening days.
- Foreign-language telephone support, bus booking availability and the correct stop for each lake facility.

Original photograph & route notes
The official Nara tourism guide lists a bus toward Yumori Onsen from Kintetsu Yamato-Kamiichi Station to Tsuburokoguchi, followed by about40minutes on foot. Confirm the current bus timetable and walking conditions before departure; this is general lake access, not the exact photo position.

- Before setting off
- A reservation-only Smile Bus can also serve designated stops around the lake from Yamato-Kamiichi. Non-residents must book by phone during weekday office hours; reservations open three business days before travel. Confirm the correct lake stop and availability, since the canoe venue and lakeside tourist facilities are different destinations. The demand bus does not run from 31 December to 3 January. This is an alternative, not a finding that the older route has ended; check services and walking conditions.
