Make Inshu Paper at Aoya Washi Kobo
Try papermaking in the home of Inshu washi, a paper tradition known for calligraphy. Pair the workshop with the permanent displays to understand the fibers, tools and skill behind a seemingly simple sheet.

What you will do
Choose an A3 sheet, A4 sheet or postcards and try forming the paper. Optional cut-paper decorations are sold at the workshop. Confirm finishing and collection arrangements when booking.

Getting there
About 6 km from JR Aoya Station, by taxi or a pre-booked demand-responsive bus. The bus does not run on weekends, public holidays or December 29–January 3, even when the workshop itself is open; plan the return trip.

Before you choose a date
Closures: Closed Mondays, or the next weekday when Monday is a public holiday; also December 29–January 3. Check official notices for exceptional opening or closure days.

Prices & timing
A3 ¥800, A4 ¥600, or two postcards ¥800, including tax. Workshop payment is cash only. Permanent displays are free. Special exhibitions cost ¥300–500 for adults; school pupils enter free.
Allow about 1 hour for A3 papermaking.
Facility 09:00–17:00. Papermaking starts 09:30, 10:30, 11:30, 13:30, 14:30 and 15:30 (last); times may change with demand.
