Mizuki Shigeru Museum
Meet the person behind Sakaiminato’s yokai characters. Following Shigeru Mizuki’s childhood, wartime experience and career before entering the monster-filled galleries gives the characters outside on Mizuki Shigeru Road greater depth.
What to see
- Permanent displays trace his life from childhood to manga artist through documents, works and film.
- A cave inhabited by 43 yokai figures, plus introductions to GeGeGe no Kitaro, Akuma-kun and other works.
- Documents and a theater address his wartime experiences; this is more than a playful character attraction.
JR Sakaiminato Station → your visit
- Walk roughly 10–15 minutes, about 800 m, along Mizuki Shigeru Road.
- There is no dedicated museum car park; drivers use nearby municipal parking.
Closures & important conditions
Open year-round with no regular closing day. No additional winter closure was found as of November 6, 2026 JST; check official topics for exceptional changes.
- Re-entry is not permitted. A museum ticket is required even to use the shop.
- No photos in the original-art special gallery and no videos in any gallery. Flash, tripods and selfie sticks are prohibited.
- Consider the war material and yokai imagery when visiting with young children.

Hours & admission arrangements
09:30–17:00, last entry 16:30. The museum suggests 30–60 minutes for a visit.
Adults ¥1,000, junior/high-school pupils ¥500, elementary pupils ¥300; preschool children free. Tickets are sold at the door and online through the official site. Groups of 20 or more should contact the museum about a week ahead.
