Hand-Bake Momiji Manju on Miyajima
Make Miyajima’s best-known sweet instead of simply buying a box. This short workshop near the ferry pier lets you pour the batter, add the filling and wait for your own maple-shaped cakes to bake.

What you will do
Use traditional hand-operated molds to bake momiji manju with smooth red-bean paste and chocolate. Browse the ground-floor Miyajima craft displays and shop to see another side of the island’s making traditions.

Getting there
Take a ferry from Miyajimaguchi to Miyajima, then walk about 1 minute from the pier. Allow time for ferry queues before and after your session.

Before you choose a date
Closures: Closed Mondays, or the following day if Monday is a public holiday, and December 29–January 3. Any separate workshop restart date for the 2026–27 New Year period was not verified; confirm by phone.
Language: An official English information page is available. Confirm English-language demonstration or instruction when booking.
- Young children need a guardian. The molds are hot, so follow the instructor’s directions.
- The workshop is on the second floor and is reached only by stairs; there is no elevator.
- Call if delayed. Arriving over 15 minutes late without notice results in cancellation. Individual cancellation charges and food-allergy arrangements are unverified; ask before booking.
- Group bookings have separate application and payment rules.
