Paper Museum, Oji
Look again at an everyday material. Oji’s Paper Museum connects modern papermaking with washi traditions, and its weekend workshop turns recycled milk-carton pulp into a small sheet of your own.
What to see
- Permanent galleries covering paper and industry, paper basics, and washi culture.
- Weekend papermaking workshops create a postcard or bookmark; check the session and numbered-ticket conditions.
JR Oji Station south exit / Asukayama tram stop → your visit
- About five minutes on foot from JR Oji’s south exit, three minutes from Asukayama tram stop, or seven minutes from Nishigahara subway station.
- The south-exit route includes footbridge stairs. For the Asuka Park Rail (Ascargot), use Oji’s central exit. The museum is in Asukayama Park and has no dedicated parking.
Closures & important conditions
Closed Mondays except public holidays, the first weekday after a public holiday, New Year and additional announced dates. The official November 2026 calendar lists closures on November 2, 4, 9, 16, 24, 25 and 30, including the extra November 25 closure. Exact New Year 2026–27 dates were not verified.
- Weekend papermaking is intended for individual visitors, not groups. Weekday sessions are for prebooked groups of 10–30.
- The Asukayama three-museum combined ticket is no longer sold; do not confuse it with the reciprocal discount introduced in July 2026.
