Niigata · Permanent cultural facility

Northern Culture Museum, Somi Main Museum

Walk through the Ito landowning family’s estate and see how Niigata’s agricultural wealth shaped its rooms, storehouses, tea spaces and garden. The broad view from the reception hall rewards a slow visit. This is the Somi main museum, not the Niigata annex in Chuo Ward.

What to see

Bandai City Bus Center / JR Niitsu Station → your visit

  1. From Bandai City, take the Akiha Ward Office service via Somi to Kamisomi Hakubutsukan-mae, then walk 2 minutes. Services are infrequent; plan both directions.
  2. The museum estimates taxi journeys of about 20 minutes from Niitsu or 25 minutes from Niigata Station.
