Kakunodate Cherry-Bark Craft Museum
On Kakunodate’s samurai-house street, discover the sheen and fine workmanship of kabazaiku made from mountain-cherry bark. Craft and local-history displays are joined by artisan demonstrations. In winter, demonstrations move to weekends and holidays, so choose separately for museum access and seeing a craftsperson at work.
What to see
- Mountain-cherry-bark craft and Kakunodate craft/history materials
- Live craft demonstrations, subject to season and daily operation
JR / Akita Nairiku Railway Kakunodate Station → your visit
- Walk about 15–20 minutes from Kakunodate Station; the city’s tourism and facility pages give these two estimates.
- By car, use Sakuranamiki municipal parking, about a 2-minute walk away. Allow extra travel time for winter snow and ice.
Closures & important conditions
No weekly closure. Closed 28 December 2026–4 January 2027. Additional exceptional closures are unverified.
- No winter-weekday demonstration does not mean the museum is closed. There are no demonstrations during the New Year closure.
- Here kabazaiku uses mountain-cherry bark, not birch bark.
