Mt Shibutsu and the Oze Landscape

Mt Shibutsu, in Gunma’s Katashina and Minakami municipalities, forms a mountain backdrop to Ozegahara. This April2024 image records a temporary snowmelt reflection, not a permanent lake or a recommended novice snow-season outing. The exact camera location is unknown.

Oze Foundation's 5 November 2026 update confirms winter road closures and the end of the 2026 Oze season. Shared transport from Tokura to Hatomachi Pass ended on 3 November. The Tsunagibashi–Hatomachi Pass road is winter-closed from 5 November at 14:00; reopening is scheduled for 16 April 2027 at 10:00 and may change with snow. Do not travel to recreate the snow-season photograph; check the next suitable open season.

The checked 2026 shared-transport season has ended. Planned road closure or reopening dates are not proof of current access; recheck the latest official conditions.

Getting there

Regional gateway only: during the operating season, Katashina Village directs visitors from Oze Tokura parking to Hatomachi Pass by shared bus/taxi; private cars and motorcycles cannot continue to the pass. This is not a route to the photo position. Winter road and transport closures apply; consult current official conditions and choose an open, suitable season rather than attempting to recreate this snow-season photo.
