Kintaikyo Bridge from the riverbank
Follow the curves from the riverbank, then notice the rise and fall underfoot. Kintaikyo’s five timber spans invite you to explore both scenery and structure.

Before you set off
Crossing needs no reservation but requires a round-trip bridge admission ticket. The central spans have steps and can be slippery in rain or snow.
High water or severe wind and rain can close the bridge. Flowers, water level and weather in the photograph reflect its capture date.
What to see | Five spans, not one repeated design
The middle three spans are arches; the two end spans are curved girder bridges. Our suggestion is to compare their profiles from beside the bridge, then enjoy the changing view if crossing. First built in 1673, it has undergone flood reconstruction and timber replacement—not every part survives from the Edo period.
Getting there | Iwakuni and Shin-Iwakuni are different gateways
The city estimates about 20 minutes by Kintaikyo-bound bus from stand 1 outside Iwakuni Station’s west exit, or about 15 minutes from the bus stop outside Shin-Iwakuni. These are different stations: establish your arrival station, then check Iwakuni Bus schedules and the return service.
Before visiting | Steps, weather and the dated photograph
Crossing requires a paid admission ticket and involves steps; the city describes spans 2–4 as difficult for wheelchairs. Rain or snow can make it slippery, and high water or severe weather may close the crossing. Do not eat or drink on the bridge. The contributor dates the photo to 3 October 2026; original EXIF is unverified. Flowers and water levels are not current guarantees.
