The white Inubosaki Lighthouse against blue sky, seen from outside the entrance
The white Inubosaki Lighthouse against blue sky, seen from outside the entrance

Inubosaki: a white lighthouse under blue sky

A white lighthouse marks this cape on the Pacific coast. Photographed in August 2025, its bright exterior makes a striking landmark for a coastal walk.

Current visiting conditions

October–February visiting hours inside the lighthouse are 08:30–16:00, with entry by 15:30. These admission hours are separate from an exterior walk; check official notices for weather or operational closures.

Check before setting off

Inubow Terasu Terrace: closed except for selected businesses

The association’s 8 October 2026 notice reports closure from 25 September until further notice. It names And Dot Coffee and HEALING CRAFT as continuing businesses, but their individual operating dates were not verified in this research.

Inubosaki combines a white lighthouse with wide ocean views. Treat climbing the tower, visiting the displays and walking outside as separate choices so you can adapt to weather and mobility needs.

This exterior photograph was taken on 21 August 2025. It does not guarantee blue skies, lighthouse entry or nearby businesses being open on your travel date.

Three things to look for

Frame the lighthouse with the sea

Compare a close view of the tower with wider views including the cape and horizon. Stay on permitted paths rather than moving closer to the surf for a photograph.

Editorial planning / safety advice

Climb the tower if conditions allow

The tower has a 99-step spiral staircase. Consider climbing only if visits are operating and the stairs suit you; the exterior walk remains a valid visit in its own right.

Learn what a lighthouse does

The adjacent exhibition building lists lighthouse-related materials and a large lens display. It adds the history and mechanics of navigation to the coastal view.

From a major station

JR Choshi Station

  1. 1 | Change to Choshi Electric Railway

From JR Choshi Station, change to Choshi Electric Railway and get off at Inubo. Check ticketing and the next departure locally; this is a separate operator from JR.

  2. 2 | Walk from Inubo Station

The city tourism association gives about 10 minutes on foot from Inubo Station to the lighthouse. Follow signs toward the cape and use designated road crossings.

  3. 3 | Choose what is open and suitable

On arrival, check whether lighthouse visits are operating. If skipping the stairs, choose a manageable exterior walk or open displays, and check your return departure from Inubo in advance.

No fixed train times, fares or transfer platform are asserted here. Allow connection time and check the travel-date service, including onward JR trains at Choshi.

These are route segments, not a guaranteed total journey time. Travel-date departures, fares and current admission prices are not verified.

Nearby culture, food & rest stops

Optional stops, not guaranteed openings or a combined ticket.

Inubosaki Lighthouse Exhibition Hall

A cultural stop beside the lighthouse. Do not assume that exterior access implies the exhibition building is open; check that day’s entry and accessible display areas.

Inubo Station shop

An option for drinks or nure-senbei rice crackers before the return train, not a promised sit-down cafe or meal stop. The operator’s listing says the hand-grilling experience is suspended until further notice.

Verify limited operation at Inubow Terasu Terrace

Do not build the itinerary around normal shopping or dining here. A tourism-association notice dated 8 October 2026 reports closure except for selected businesses, with no reopening date stated.

Before you go / what remains uncertain

Safety before getting close to the sea

Visits may stop in rough weather or strong wind. Stay away from wave-washed rocks and cliff edges, obey closures, secure loose belongings and shorten the outdoor walk when conditions worsen.

Editorial planning / safety advice

Plan a sunrise visit separately

For sunrise, verify transport and a safe walking route for that hour, not just the sunrise time. Do not assume blue skies or descend to a dark shoreline.

Editorial planning / safety advice

A possible order — editorial suggestion

Choshi → Inubo Station → lighthouse exterior → displays and tower visit if open → Inubo Station. Choose a separately verified meal stop; do not rely on normal operation at Terasu Terrace.

Still to verify for your date

  • The railway access page returned 403 and further reads were stopped. Travel-date train times, fares and transfer platform remain unverified.
  • Same-day admission, waves, wind, path closures and end-to-end step-free access.
  • The terrace’s full reopening, individual dates of continuing businesses and same-day opening of the station shop.
