Make a Goldfish Lantern at Yanai Nishigura
Give your own expression to the red goldfish lanterns hanging along Yanai’s white-walled streets. In a former soy-sauce storehouse, add eyes and patterns to a lantern and see how a familiar local shape becomes your own. The roughly half-hour session fits easily into a town walk.

What you will do
Decorate a prepared goldfish body and attach fins and a tail. This standard session does not start with making the bamboo frame. Look at the storehouse’s retained posts and beams and its gallery while visiting.

Getting there
About 10 minutes on foot from JR Yanai Station on the Sanyo Line, in the Furuichi white-walled historic district. Drivers use nearby sightseeing parking.

Closures: Closed Tuesdays, or the following day if Tuesday is a public holiday, and December 29–January 3. No additional winter 2026–27 closure was found in the official information checked.
