Print Coral Patterns at Shuri Ryusen
At a dyeing workshop in Shuri, transfer the intricate texture of fossil coral onto fabric. Color and placement make each piece different, even when visitors use the same coral forms supplied by the studio.

What you will do
Choose a tenugui cloth, tote bag or T-shirt, lay it over fossil coral and apply color with a padded dyeing tool. Take the piece home that day, then follow the supplied instructions to heat-fix the color with an iron.

Getting there
From Yui Rail Shuri Station, take a taxi for about 5 minutes or walk roughly 20 minutes, using the studio’s estimate. Shuri Koko-mae and Yamakawa bus stops are about 3 minutes on foot; Shurijo-mae is about 5 minutes.

Before you choose a date
Closures: Listed as open year-round, with no regular weekly closing day. Check official notices and booking communications for exceptional closures or typhoon-related changes.
Language: For small groups, staff can explain the dyeing steps in English. Groups are advised to bring an interpreter, arranged by the visitors.
- The child rate covers ages 3 through elementary school; ask how a young child should be assisted. Personal fabric and tools cannot be brought in.
- The workshop is on the second floor. Official tourism information states there is no elevator and shoes are removed; discuss stair access before booking.
- Cancellation is free through two days before, 50% the previous day and 100% on the day. Operator cancellations receive a full refund.
- The fossil coral is studio equipment, not something visitors collect from a beach or living reef.
- Heat-fixing is required at home. Current session availability is unverified.
