Chido Museum, Tsuruoka
Compare samurai-era rooms, a rural house and early Meiji Western-style buildings on grounds associated with the Sakai lords of Shonai. Everyday tools and the garden give the architecture a human scale, tracing the region from castle town to modern life.

- The former Shibuya house, everyday-object displays and Sakai garden

Closures & important conditions
Closed every Wednesday, year-round. The general New Year rule is 28 December–4 January, but the current official notice specifies 28 December 2026–6 January 2027. Some areas may close for changeovers. The rule for public holidays falling on Wednesday is unverified.
- Wednesday closing has applied year-round since December 1, 2024, not only in winter.
- This winter’s closure runs December 28, 2026–January 6, 2027. Unlike the general New Year schedule, it includes January 5.
