Matsue History Museum
After seeing Matsue Castle, discover how its town was planned and how people lived there. Models and everyday objects in a tatami-floored museum connect the castle to the surrounding streets, while the garden offers another view of the keep.
What to see
- Compare a 1:600 model of the castle town with historic maps.
- Explore the ruling families, local industries, townspeople’s lives and tea culture through objects and film.
- Rest in the large hall overlooking the Japanese garden and castle; spaces outside the exhibition rooms are free.
JR Matsue Station → your visit
- Take the Lake Line bus to Otemae Horikawa Sightseeing Boat Pier / History Museum, then walk about 3 minutes.
- Other route buses serve Kenmin Kaikan-mae, about 5 minutes away on foot. Check current stops and timetables.
- The museum is east of Matsue Castle. There are 12 free dedicated parking spaces and accessible parking on the north side of the building.
