Saitama Museum of Rivers
A huge waterwheel marks the start of a miniature journey down the Arakawa to Tokyo Bay. Models and hands-on displays explore river environments, transport, flood control and everyday life beside the water.
What to see
- The 24.2-metre waterwheel and Arakawa Model 173, a 1:1,000-scale river landscape.
- Permanent indoor displays, with the Adventure Theater and seasonal Arakawa Wakuwaku Land available under separate conditions and fees.
Tobu Tojo Line Hachigata / Yorii stations → your visit
- Walk about 20 minutes from Hachigata, or take a taxi about seven minutes from Yorii. The official FAQ says there is no bus service.
- Address: 39 Kozono, Yorii. About eight minutes by car from Hanazono IC; standard-car parking costs JPY 300.
Closures & important conditions
Closed Mondays except public/substitute holidays, Saitama Citizens’ Day, July–August and Golden Week. The published rule does not specify an automatic next-day substitute closure. Closed December 29–January 3; maintenance closures may be added.
- The museum fully reopened on October 1, 2026 after its water-system failure. September’s partial-opening/free-entry notice does not describe the current regular admission.
- Wakuwaku Land closes November 15 through the day before the spring equinox, and may close in rain. This is an outdoor-facility restriction, not a winter closure of the whole museum.
- The theater excludes children under four, pregnant visitors and certain other users. Wakuwaku Land is not a swimming pool; shoes or heel-secured sandals are required.
