Bizen Osafune Sword Village and Museum
Follow a Japanese sword from the gallery into the working spaces behind it. After comparing shapes and temper patterns, visit the forge and workshops to understand how steel, wood, lacquer and metal fittings bring different crafts together.
What to see
- Learn about Osafune in the World of Swords display and touch examples of sword steel and whetstones.
- Visit the forge and workshops for polishing, scabbards and handles. Work in progress and craftsperson attendance vary by day.
- The bookable traditional forging demonstration offers a 30-minute viewing slot. Visitors watch the craftspeople; they do not hammer steel themselves.
JR Osafune Station → your visit
- Take a taxi about 7 minutes from Osafune on the JR Ako Line. The museum lists a walk of about 20 minutes from Kagato Station.
- On weekends and public holidays, the Osafune Dagashi Line bus takes about 15 minutes from Osafune Station. Each ride is ¥300, preschool children free, payable in cash. Check the operating day and return timetable.
