Chiba · Permanent cultural facility
Museum of Aeronautical Sciences
South of Narita Airport, real jumbo-jet sections, engines and aviation models explain how aircraft work. Watch actual take-offs and landings from the observation gallery to connect the exhibits with an operating airport. A maintenance closure is planned throughout December 2026.
What to see
- Boeing 747 fuselage sections and engine, plus aviation-history models
- Airport-work displays, outdoor aircraft and the observation gallery
Narita Airport Terminal 2 Station / Terminal 2 → your visit
- Use a bus such as Keisei Bus Chiba East’s Nambu Hakubutsukan service from Terminal 2 Stop 2 to the museum. The museum estimates about 22 minutes from the station including walking and riding, excluding waiting.
- Services can be infrequent. A bus terminating at Nambu Butsuryu leaves a further 13-minute walk. Check both outbound and return timetables and allow ample time to get back to the airport.
Closures & important conditions
Closed Mondays, or the following day when Monday is a holiday; open daily in August. The usual year-end closure is 29–31 December. Separately, the entire museum plans to close 1–31 December 2026 for equipment work. Reopening is planned in January 2027, but the exact date is not yet confirmed.
- The roof is reached only by stairs from the fifth floor, without wheelchair/stroller access. Rain or strong wind can close the roof without closing the entire museum.
- The December maintenance closure affects the whole museum. Do not plan this winter using only the usual three-day year-end closure.
